what is Product Liability Insurance and warranties??
and how are they helpful to small business??
Product liability is the part of insurance that kicks in and protects your business, if your product is defective and causes injury to others (think, spinach infected with e. coli). It pays your defense costs in a lawsuit, and it pays judgement, up to the policy limit.
Warranty – can be one of two things. When in reference to product liability, it’s usually an important statement that the business makes. If it turns out that the business did not abide by the statement, then it totally invalidates coverage. Example: You are growing spinach. You “warrant” that you will not use a plastic irrigation system. There happens to be a drought, and in your rush to water the spinach, you use a plastic irrigation system. The spinach goes bad, but you don’t know it and sell it anyway. The e. coli is discovered – but not necessarily caused by the plastic irrigation system. Oops! NO coverage for this claim, because YOU voided the policy by breaking the warrant.
The other warranty, is something like you get on a tv at best buy – if the tv is defective, the warranty will replace it free of charge. It’s an agreement between the manufacturer and the purchaser, but it’s NOT covered by insurance.

Terrorism Insurance $68.51 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Terrorism insurance is insurance purchased by property owners to cover their potential losses and liabilities that might occur due to terrorist activities. It is considered to be a difficult product for insurance companies, as the odds of terrorist attacks are very difficult to predict and the potential liability enormous. For example the September 11, 2001 attacks resulted in an estimated 31.7 billion loss. This combination of uncertainty and potentially huge losses makes the setting of premiums a difficult matter. Most insurance companies therefore exclude terrorism from coverage in Casualty and Property insurance, or else require endorsements to provide coverage. Limited Liability Partnerships $144.98 The concept of Limited Liability Partnerships (hereinafter called LLP), new commercial vehicle floated to address the vacuum that existed between partnership law and company law. LLP is a marriage of principles of company law and partnership law in order to address the deficiencies in both the areas for small scale business and professional firms. The present Work attempts a deeper understanding of the basic concepts underlying LLP and the way in which company and partnership has been fused to produce this new entity. The Limited Liability Partnership (LLP) is viewed as an alternative corporate business vehicle that provides the benefits of limited liability but allows its partners the flexibility of organising their internal structure as a partnership based on a mutually arrived agreement. Product Liability in the Republic of Ireland $81.25 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Irish law on product liability was for most of its history based solely on negligence. With the Liability for Defective Products Act, 1991 it has now also the benefit of a statutory, strict liability regime. The Liability for Defective Products Act, 1991 was enacted pursuant to the EC Directive on Product Liability 85/374/EEC. Under the Act, a producer shall be strictly liable for damages in tort for damage (either to property or an individual) caused wholly or partly by a defect in his product. Over the past number of years a number of Irish cases have dealt with the issue of warning labels on products (mostly in connection with flammable clothing.) While developed in the context of negligence, they seem likely to inform future court judgments in terms of what constitutes a suitable presentation of a product. Liability Insurance by Evelyn, Columba Sara [Paperback] $89.22 Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Liability insurance is a part of the general insurance system of risk financing to protect the purchaser (the insured ) from the risks of liabilities imposed by lawsuits and similar claims. It protects the insured in the event he or she is sued for claims that come within the coverage of the insurance policy. Originally, individuals or companies that faced a common peril, formed a group and created a selfhelp fund out of which to pay compensation should any member incur loss (in other words, a mutual insurance arrangement). The modern system relies on dedicated carriers, usually forprofit, to offer protection against specified perils in consideration of a premium. Liability insurance is designed to offer specific protection against third party insurance claims, i.e., payment is not typically made to the insured, but rather to someone suffering loss who is not a party to the insurance contract. In general, damage caused intentionally as well as contractual liability are not covered under liability insurance policies. Handbook of Insurance $364.83 In the 1970s, the research agenda in insurance was dominated by optimal insurance coverage, security design, and equilibrium under conditions of imperfect information. The 1980s saw a growth of theoretical developments including nonexpected utility, price volatility, retention capacity, the pricing and design of insurance contracts in the presence of multiple risks, and the liability insurance crisis. The empirical study of information problems, financial derivatives, and large losses due to catastrophic events dominated the research agenda in the 1990s.The Handbook of Insurance provides a single reference source on insurance for professors, researchers, graduate students, regulators, consultants, and practitioners, that reviews the research developments in insurance and its related fields that have occurred over the last thirty years. The book starts with the history and foundations of insurance theory and moves on to review asymmetric information, risk management and insurance pricing, and the industrial organization of insurance markets. The book ends with life insurance, pensions, and economic security. Each chapter has been written by a leading authority in insurance, all contributions have been peer reviewed, and each chapter can be read independently of the others. Limited Liability Partnership $103.56 Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. A limited liability partnership (LLP) is a partnership in which some or all partners (depending on the jurisdiction) have limited liability. It therefore exhibits elements of partnerships and corporations. In an LLP one partner is not responsible or liable for another partners misconduct or negligence. This is an important difference from that of an unlimited partnership. In an LLP, some partners have a form of limited liability similar to that of the shareholders of a corporation. In some countries, an LLP must also have at least one general partner with unlimited liability. Unlike corporate shareholders, the partners have the right to manage the business directly. As opposed to that, corporate shareholders have to elect a board of directors under the laws of various state charters. The board organizes itself (also under the laws of the various state charters) and hires corporate officers who then have as corporate individuals the legal responsibility to manage the corporation in the corporations best interest. An LLP also contains a different level of tax liability from that of a corporation. Financial Management of Life Insurance Companies $332.97 The theme of this book is the management of life insurers using techniques drawn from the field of finance. The importance of financial management has increased greatly in recent years, paralleling the growth in competition within the financial services industry. This competitive environment reflects an increasing financial sophistication among insurance consumers, as well as the blurring of the lines that traditionally separated different types of financial institutions. To succeed in todays business environment, insurers must use financial techniques such as assetliability management, financial hedging, futures, and options. They must also be increasingly precise in measuring the tradeoffs between risk and return in both their asset and product portfolios. Author: Cummins, J. Product Churning $71.7 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Product churning is the business practice whereby more of the product is sold than is beneficial to the consumer. An example is a stock broker who buys and sells securities in a portfolio more frequently than is necessary in order to generate commission fees. It has been claimed that dollar cost averaging is a form of product churn under certain conditions. In this strategy, an investor is advised to repeatedly buy or sell small lots of a security as the price changes. Each transaction carries a commission fee. In this way the overall cost is averaged down as prices fall, and the investor is protected from market fluctuations which can be very difficult to accurately predict. The effectiveness of this as an investing strategy is open to debate, but it involves many transactions, creating brokerage commissions for the brokerage firm. Another form of product churning is sometimes practiced by maintenance service providers. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Tennoe, Mariam T./ Henssonow, Susan F. Managing Environmental Risk Through Insurance $205.52 Can insurance be used as a means to obtain compliance with environmental policy? Answering this question requires examination of a broad mosaic of academic issues, including current systems available for providing compensation and deterrence, use of contracts (including insurance) as substitutes for tort law, limitations of regulatory policymaking by government agencies, preconditions for creation of insurance products, and market mechanisms necessary for insurance to be purchased or sold. The purpose of Managing Environmental Risk Through Insurance is to highlight the potential role that insurance and performance standards can play in managing environmental risk. Insurance can play a significant role in dealing with one of the most problematic issues facing society today how to compensate for environmental exposures. This book analyzes the ability of insurance to play a role in managing environmental risk. It begins by outlining the role insurance plays in society in contrast to other societal tools for addressing risk: government benefit programs and imposition of involuntary liability using the court system. By so doing, the book describes the comparative advantages of insurance. The book then analyzes the insurability of the risks. Finally, the book applies the insurability analysis to three concrete environmental examples. Public Health Insurance Option $76.47 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles A public health insurance option (public insurance option or public option for short) is a proposed health insurance plan that would be offered by the U.S. federal government. In Affordable Health Care for America Act (H.R. 3962), and its predecessor H.R. 3200, it will be a Qualified Health Benefit Plan competing with similar private insurance plans in an internet based exchange or market place, enabling citizens and small businesses to purchase health insurance meeting the minimum federal standard. Persons covered by other employer plans or by state insurance plans such as Medicare will not be eligible to obtain coverage from the exchange and therefore cannot obtain this form of federal health insurance. The federal governments health insurance plan will be financed entirely by premiums without subsidy from the Federal government. The plans stated in the Senate HLP Committee and H.R. 3962, the two that contain clauses establishing a public insurance option, require the repayment of seed money to the Treasury over a ten year period. Uganda Insurance Commission $70.1 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The Uganda Insurance Commission was established by an Act of Parliament in 1996. According to its website, the mandate of the commission is to supervise and regulate the insurance industry in Uganda. Commission offices are located in Kampala; the position of Commissioner of Insurance is currently vacant. Insurance, in law and economics, is a form of risk management primarily used to hedge against the risk of a contingent loss. Insurance is defined as the equitable transfer of the risk of a loss, from one entity to another, in exchange for a premium, and can be thought of as a guaranteed and known small loss to prevent a large, possibly devastating loss. An insurer is a company selling the insurance; an insured or policyholder is the person or entity buying the insurance. The insurance rate is a factor used to determine the amount to be charged for a certain amount of insurance coverage, called the premium. Risk management, the practice of appraising and controlling risk, has evolved as a discrete field of study and practice. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Timpledon, Miriam T./ Marseken, Susan F. Home Insurance by Stawart, Delmar Thomas C. [Paperback] $78.07 Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Home insurance, also commonly called hazard insurance or homeowners insurance (often abbreviated in the real estate industry as HOI), is the type of property insurance that covers private homes. It is an insurance policy that combines various personal insurance protections, which can include losses occurring to ones home, its contents, loss of its use (additional living expenses), or loss of other personal possessions of the homeowner, as well as liability insurance for accidents that may happen at the home or at the hands of the homeowner within the policy territory. It requires that at least one of the named insureds occupies the home. The dwelling policy (DP) is similar, but used for residences which dont qualify for various reasons, such as vacancy/nonoccupancy, seasonal/secondary residence, or age. It is a multipleline insurance, meaning that it includes both property and liability coverage, with an indivisible premium, meaning that a single premium is paid for all risks. Standard forms divide coverage into several categories, and the coverage provided is typically a percentage of Coverage A, which is coverage for the main dwelling. Author: Stawart, Delmar Thomas C.
